Hello, I’m Melissa
I hail from the coldest part of the Dominican Republic, a town named Constanza, where I spent my early years until the age of 6. Subsequently my family and I relocated to Moca, another region in the country. Despite the economic challenges surrounding me, I always had what I needed. From a young age I developed a passion for fashion, sewing clothes for my makeshift Barbies at the age of 7 with any materials I was able to collect. My desire was to one day embody the style of those glamorous dolls.
At the age of 21, I made a life-altering decision to move to the United States, becoming a proud Rhode Islander. My father often emphasized the challenges of making a living through creativity, and I initially embraced a path in business as per my family’s wishes. However, my journey in the U.S. not only opened doors for me but also expanded my mindset.
During this transformative period, I crossed paths with Orlando Genao, the owner of a modeling school, who invited me to join. Despite lacking any prior experience I proved my determination to learn and grow. In my five years residing in the United States, I’ve not only mastered the English language but also graced numerous runways, posed for many talented photographers, and styled countless looks for photography – not only for myself as a model but for others who appreciate my creativity as a stylist.
Overcoming my deepest fears has turned some of my most challenging moments into cherished memories. Although I may be shy off the runway, stepping into the spotlight empowers me to express myself freely. Each moment under the eyes of those attending feels like an opportunity to be whoever I want, and I’m always looking forward to the next.
Along the way, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some incredible individuals, including my life partner who is not only my biggest fan but also my personal photographer. Together, we form an unstoppable dream team!
